该剧以东北农村一普通的农户“老万家”为舞台，分别讲述了发生在万家老少三代十几人身上的故事。其中《承包大喇叭》讲述三儿子喜奎承包村里的大喇叭，还请二嫂彩凤做播音员，传递农业信息，还搞些“二人转”宣传好人好事，批评坏人坏事，结果惹出许多麻烦……。Two narrators, one seen and one unseen, discuss possible connections between a series of paintings. The on-screen narrator walks through three-dimensional reproductions of each painting, featuring real people, sometimes moving, in an effort to explain the series' significance.。
