农村妇女陈丽华为给孙子治病卖了乡下的房子，为了不被儿媳妇“卖了”，被迫与富豪陆川假结婚，其后在儿媳妇的逼迫下流落城中村，一年后在陆氏集团做保洁时，又与陆川相遇，但因为某些原因，两人都未认出彼此，几次擦肩而过。。Dr. Braun is forbidden to practice medicine because he's a Jew living in Nazi occupied Czechoslovakia. He's old, seems resigned about the fate of the Jews, and even works in the Department of Confiscation of Jewish Property. One day a neighbor asks him to assist a wounded political fugitive.
