From airplanes and booze running to American G-men, Communists and union busters, Frankie's fearless sense of adventure ge...。现年26岁的北条钵子（大岛优子 饰）是往返于新宿与箱根之间的浪漫特快贩售乘务员，她工作认真，值得信赖。与此相对，现实生活中则对衣来伸手、饭来张口的男朋友（洼田正孝 饰）没有半点办法。这一天，钵子收到母亲（西牟田惠 饰）的来信。当年父母离婚后，母亲便自暴自弃乱搞男女关系，导致母女心灵上的隔阂越来越大。当钵子被这封信弄得有些心烦意乱时，她在列车上又遭遇了涉嫌盗窃的奇怪男子樱庭洋一（大仓孝二 饰）。在和樱庭纠缠的过程中，他们错过了列车而被迫在中途盘桓。期间樱庭看了钵子扔掉的信，由此判断女孩的母亲试图自杀。 为了阻止这种可怕情况的发生，他强行带着钵子踏上了寻母的旅途……。
